What are the advantages of composite decking over traditional wood decking?

Composite decking has a number of benefits that make it a superior option over timber decking. These benefits include;

  • Lower Maintenance: Composite decking requires little to no maintenance! Unlike wood, which demands regular staining, sealing, and sanding to maintain its appearance and prevent rot, composite decking requires minimal attention. A simple cleaning with soap and water is usually all needed, freeing you from the constant maintenance cycle.
  • Durability: Composite decking is highly resistant to warping, rotting, and insect damage, which are common issues with timber decks. This assurance of longevity means fewer repairs or replacements in the future, giving you peace of mind about your investment.
  • Splinter-Free Surface: Enjoy your deck barefoot! Composite decking provides a smooth, splinter-free surface, perfect for playing with children and pets. No more worrying about painful surprises as you walk across your deck.
  • Weather Resistance: Composite options stand up well to the elements. It’s resistant to fading from sunlight, cracking from extreme temperatures, and moisture damage from rain and snow. This means your deck will continue to look beautiful for years to come.
  • Variety of Styles: Composite boards come in a wide range of colours and styles that mimic the look of natural wood. You can find options with realistic grain patterns and textures, allowing you to create a deck that perfectly complements your home’s aesthetic.
What is co-extrusion in composite decking?

Co-extrusion decking is an advanced version of composite decking that offers several advantages over traditional composite materials. Here’s the breakdown:

What it is: Regular composite decking blends wood fibres with plastic, whereas co-extrusion decking goes further. It employs a technique to encase the composite core with a protective layer, typically made from a high-performance polymer.

Why it’s important: The capped layer in co-extrusion decking provides several benefits:

  • Increased Durability:  It makes the decking more resistant to scratches, stains, fading, and moisture. This translates to a longer lifespan and less maintenance for your deck.
  • Enhanced Appearance: The cap layer can be designed to mimic the look of natural wood grain, while offering superior weather resistance compared to real wood.
  • Improved Performance: Co-extrusion reduces water absorption, which minimises warping and rotting. It can also improve slip resistance.

Simply put, co-extrusion decking is a high-tech option that offers a good balance of aesthetics, durability, and low maintenance for your outdoor space.

Does your composite decking boards use recycled materials?

Yes, our boards are made up of 90% recycled material. The composition of the WPC is made up of 60% wood fibres, 30% high density polyethylene (HDPE) both of which are 100% recycled materials. The remaining 10% is made up a chemical additives to form all the materials into the decking board.
